The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in Oklahoma City is -17 degrees, which occurred on February 12, 1899. Below zero temperatures are not a common occurrence in Oklahoma City, but when a cold spell hits it can get pretty cold in the city.
Since 1890, the temperature has dropped to -8 degrees or colder in Oklahoma City about a dozen times. The last time it got really cold in the city was on December 23, 1989, when it dropped to -8 degrees.

The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the state of Oklahoma is -27 degrees, which occurred on January 18, 1930, in Watts. The small town of Watts is located along the Arkansas border in eastern Oklahoma, about 200 miles from Oklahoma City.
