Located in the central part of Texas, the capital city of Austin tends to have a milder climate than the extremes that can be found in the Lone Star State. Despite the high number of 100 degree weather days, the city of Austin is a pretty cool place to visit. I've been there a number of times and it always seems like there are festivals of some sort going on. Especially great music festivals and concerts.

The all-time record hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Texas is 120 degrees, which occurred on August 12, 1936, in Seymour, which is located about 280 miles north of Austin. Texas is one of 15 states that set an all-time hottest record in the very hot summer of 1936.

All-time Record Coldest Temperature Ever Recorded in Austin is -2 Degrees
The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the city of Austin is -2 degrees, which occurred on January 31, 1949.
Below zero temperatures are extremely rare in Austin, as the city has only had one other date when it was below zero since 1897. It was -1 degree on February 12, 1899. Austin averages 19 days a year when the temperature dips below the freezing mark.

The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the state of Texas is -23 degrees, which occurred on February 8, 1933, in Seminole. The city of Seminole is located in western Texas, near the New Mexico border, about 380 miles northwest of Austin.


The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Austin (-2) and the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Texas (-23) is 21 degrees. A big statistical difference.
Overall, while it can get pretty hot in the summer and somewhat cold in the winter in Austin, the city still has a much milder climate than the extremes that can be found in the state of Texas.
