Weather temperatures have been officially kept in St. Louis, Missouri since 1874. These are the all-time record hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in St. Louis since 1874.

Located along the Mississippi River in America's heartland, St. Louis is a city that can get very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Based upon record temperatures, the climate in St. Louis is not that much different from the extremes found in the state of Missouri.
The difference between the all-time record hottest and coldest temperatures in St. Louis is 137. The difference between the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in the state of Missouri is 158; a difference of 21 degrees.
Record Hottest and Coldest Temperatures Ever Recorded in St. Louis, Missouri
All-time Record Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded in St. Louis is 115 Degrees
The hottest temperature ever recorded in the city of St. Louis is 115 degrees, which occurred on July 14, 1954. Days when the temperature reaches 100 degrees or more are not at all uncommon in St. Louis, as the city experiences heat waves almost every summer.
The last such heat wave was in the summer of 2012, when the temperature reached 108 degrees on both June 28th and July 25th.
  • Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded in Missouri is 118 Degrees
The all-time record hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Missouri is 118 degrees, which occurred on July 14, 1954, in both Warsaw and Union. Warsaw is located some 200 miles west of St. Louis, while the city of Union is roughly 50 miles west of St. Louis.

It should also be noted that the hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Illinois is 117 degrees, which occurred in East St. Louis. The city of East St. Louis is located right across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri.
The difference between the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in St. Louis (115) and the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Missouri (118) is three degrees. Really not much of a difference, and when you consider that is was 117 degrees once in East St. Louis right over the Mississippi River, the difference is really minuscule.
All-time Record Coldest Temperature Ever Recorded in St. Louis is -22 Degrees
The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the city of St. Louis is -22 degrees, which occurred on January 5, 1884. Below zero temperature days are not rare in St. Louis, as the city averages a couple days each winter when the temperature reaches or drops below zero.
The last time it was really cold in St. Louis occurred in 1989, when the temperature dropped to -16 degrees on December 22nd, and also dropped to -15 degrees on December 23rd.
  • Coldest Temperature Ever Recorded in Missouri is -40 Degrees
The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Missouri is -40 degrees, which occurred on February 13, 1905, in Warsaw. That is the same city which also experienced the hottest temperature ever recorded in Missouri.

It is pretty uncommon for one city to hold both the hottest and coldest temperature records for one state. I believe the only other city in the United States to hold this distinction is Millsboro, Delaware. And Delaware is a much smaller state than Missouri.
The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in St. Louis (-22), and the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Missouri (-40) is 18 degrees. A much larger difference than the hottest temperatures ever recorded in St. Louis and the state of Missouri.
In general, though, St. Louis has a climate that is not too much different from the extremes found in the state of Missouri.
