Pittsburgh is one of the most historic, populated, and most visited cities in the United States.
For all the people living in the Pittsburgh area and all the tourists thinking of visiting the city, here is a list of the hottest temperature records for each month of the year.
The list can be very useful for tourists visiting Pittsburgh at any time of the year. Also listed for each month are great places to visit in Pittsburgh during that time of the year.
In addition to the record hottest temperature and places to visit for each month, I'm also listing the date and year in which the record occurred. If you are not familiar with Pittsburgh, you might be pretty surprised at some of the record hottest temperatures for each month.
The temperature records below date back to 1875. All the data is from the National Weather Service.
January—75 degrees
The record high temperature for January in Pittsburgh is 75 degrees which occurred on both January 22, 1906 and January 25, 1950. It's been 70 degrees or warmer in Pittsburgh about a dozen of times since 1875.
Since the weather can be cold and unpredictable in January, a great place to visit in Pittsburgh during the first month of the year is the world famous Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
February—78 degrees
The record high temperature for February in Pittsburgh is 78 degrees which occurred on February 18, 2018.
February is another month with unpredictable weather in the city. Another great indoor place to visit is the Carnegie Science Center.
March—84 degrees
The record high temperature for March in Pittsburgh is 84 degrees which occurred on March 25, 1929. It's only been 80 degrees about 20 times in March.
The best place to visit in Pittsburgh in March is the Carnegie Museum of Art which is one of the most dynamic art museums in the United States.
April—90 degrees
The record high temperature for April in Pittsburgh is 90 degrees which occurred on both April 18, 1896 and April 24, 1925.
April is a great month to head over to the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and see Spring blooming in the city.
May—95 degrees
The record high temperature for May in Pittsburgh is 95 degrees which has occurred four times. The first time was on May 25, 1875, the next two times were on May 2 and 3, 1887 and the last time was on May 29, 1881.
A great place to visit in May in the city as the weather turns nice is the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden.
June—98 degrees
The record high temperature for June in Pittsburgh is 98 degrees which occurred on June 4, 1895, as well as on June 22 and 25, 1988.
As the weather stays nice in June it's a great time to visit Hartwood Acres Park and Hartwood Mansion. The park hosts free summer concerts and is the crown jewel of the Allegheny County park system.
July—103 degrees
The record high temperature for July in Pittsburgh is 103 degrees which occurred on both July 10, 1881 and July 16, 1988. The 103 degrees is the overall record hottest temperature for Pittsburgh.
July is a fun time in Pittsburgh to go and take a ride up the Duquesne Incline which takes visitors up to an observation deck 400 feet above the city on Mount Washington. The views are great here and the incline is open until 12:30 am so you can see Pittsburgh during the day or night.
August—103 degrees
The record high temperature for August in Pittsburgh is 103 degrees which occurred on August 6, 1918. The 103 degrees is the hottest temperature ever recorded in Pittsburgh.
August is a great month to take a cruise along the three rivers, Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela, of Pittsburgh. The Gateway Clipper Fleet offers tours daily and while by the rivers you can also visit the Rivers Casino Pittsburgh located at 777 Casino Drive.
September—102 degrees
The record high temperature for September in Pittsburgh is 102 degrees. That record high occurred on September 6, 1881. Only July, August and September have hit 100 degrees in the city.
The weather is still pretty good in September and it's a great time to take the other incline the Monongahela Incline to the top of Mount Washington for fantastic views of the city.
October—91 degrees
The record high temperature for October in Pittsburgh is 91 degrees which occurred on both October 5, 1879 and October 3, 1884.
As the leaves change over and Halloween nears, October is a great time to visit Riverview Park. Located at the top of the park is the Allegheny Observatory which is free to the public. Go on a clear night.
November—82 degrees
The record high temperature for November in Pittsburgh is 82 degrees which occurred on November 3, 1961.
A great place to visit in November is the West End Overlook which offers sweeping views of Downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding area.
December—74 degrees
The record high temperature for December in Pittsburgh is 74 degrees which occurred on December 3, 1982.
Have fun in December in Pittsburgh by visiting the impressive Late Gothic Revival 42 story 535 foot high Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh. In December, the Nationality Rooms in the Cathedral of Learning are decorated for Christmas with holiday decorations from the respective countries.
