Did you know that there are 10 major well known cities in the United States that have never been above 100 degrees? What's shocking about this list is that most of the cities on the list are located in southern states and most in states one associates with heat. We associate heat with the south but that's not always the case from a temperature perspective.

How many of the 10 major cities (12 are actually listed) in the United States that have never been above 100 degrees can you name? At least one of the cities is pretty easy to guess but the rest will likely be pretty shocking to most people unless you are a real weather geek.

A few notes first. Only one place in the state of Alaska has ever been 100 degrees and it's not a city. In any case, there really is only one city in Alaska, as Fairbanks and Juneau are really just big towns so they are both eligible but not on the list. The biggest hints I can give you are to think outside the box for most of the answers.

Anchorage, Alaska - 85 degrees

The hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Anchorage, Alaska is 85 degrees which occurred on June 14, 1969. Anchorage is easily the coldest weather city on this list and it's also the northernmost big city in the United States. Most people should have been able to guess Anchorage.

Eureka, California - 87 degrees

Most people living in California might find it hard to believe that anywhere in the state has never had a 100 degree weather temperature day but the all-time high for Eureka, California is just 87 degrees. That record was first recorded on October 26, 1993. Eureka's record high for July is just 77 degrees.

The hottest temperature ever record on Earth was recorded in California in 1913 in Death Valley. Even more odd, the city of Redding, California is only a little over 100 miles east of Eurkea and Redding routinely has 100 degree temperature days each summer and Redding's record high is 118 degrees.

Honolulu, Hawaii - 95 degrees

Despite being the southernmost city in all the United States, the hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Honolulu, Hawaii is just 95 degrees which occurred on September 19, 1994. While it's easy to understand why Anchorage is on this list, Honolulu would probably not be on most people's lists of cities that have never been 100 degrees. The cool ocean breezes in Hawaii, though, prevent the actual temperature from ever reaching 100 degrees in Honolulu.

Key West, Florida - 97 degrees

Another hard to believe shocker is that Key West, the southernmost city in the Lower 48 States, has never really been close to 100 degrees. The record high for Key West is 97 degrees which first occurred on July 19, 1880, and was matched on August 26, 1956. Key West is located 103 miles north of Cuba and 1,669 miles north of the equator.

Everett, Washington - 98 degrees

While Seattle has a record high of 103 degrees its northern suburb city of Everett, Washington has never been above 98 degrees dating back to 1894. Everett reached 98 degrees on June 9, 1955. Everett's second hottest record temperature is just 94 degrees.

Buffalo, New York - 99 degrees

The hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Buffalo, New York is 99 degrees which occurred on August 27, 1948. Buffalo might not be that easy for you to come up with since every other major city in the United States located in the north has been over 100 degrees. Rochester, located 70 miles northeast of Buffalo, has reached 100 degrees at least six times and has a record high of 102 which it has reached twice.

Tampa, Florida - 99 degrees

Believe it or not but Tampa, Florida has never had a 100 degree weather temperature day. The record for Tampa is 99 degrees which occurred on June 5, 1985. Another shocker for many people.

Naples, Florida - 99 degrees

The hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Naples, Florida is 99 degrees which occurred on September 1, 1986. Naples is located over 100 miles south of Tampa.

Miami, Florida - 100 degrees

The hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Miami, Florida is 100 degrees exactly which occurred on July 21, 1942. So Miami has been 100 degrees but never above 100 degrees. Miami is the largest southernmost city in the United States and the fact that it has never been above 100 degrees is shocking to most people.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - 100 degrees

Like Miami, Fort Lauderdale has also hit 100 degrees but has never been above the century mark. It was a record 100 degrees exactly in Fort Lauderdale on June 22, 2009.

Venice, Florida - 100 degrees

Three times, July 31, 1989, June 23, 1998 and June 24, 2010, the city of Venice in Florida has hit 100 degrees but the city has never been over the century mark dating back to 1927.
