I've been to El Paso a couple of times, and would definitely call it a hot weather city in a desert. Despite the heat and desert, there are plenty of golf courses in and around the city.
El Paso is also a great place to stay if you are visiting Guadalupe Mountains National Park in West Texas, or Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico, just over the Texas border. There are nice hotels in El Paso, and both national parks are within a two hour drive.

The all-time record hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Texas is 120 degrees, which occurred on August 12, 1936, in Seymour, which is located about 500 miles northeast of El Paso.


The summer of 1936 was a very hot one in the United States, as 15 states set their all-time record high that year. Texas is one of just 10 states to have recorded a weather temperature reading of 120 degrees or higher.

The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the state of Texas is -23 degrees, which occurred on February 8, 1933, in Seminole, which is located about 260 miles northeast of El Paso.


The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in El Paso (-8) and the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Texas (-23) is 15 degrees. A large statistical difference.
Overall, the city of El Paso has a milder climate than the extremes found in the state of Texas.

  1. I know this is a very old article, but for historical purposes, there is no place in Texas that is 500 miles Northwest of El Paso. The article is referring to Seymour, Texas, which is about 500 miles roughly northEAST of El Paso.

  2. Seminole, Texas is the county seat of Gaines County. It is about 260 miles east-northeast of El Paso. But you're 100% correct, there is no place in Texas that is 500 miles northwest of El Paso.
