Weather temperatures have been officially kept in Syracuse, New York since 1902. These are the all-time record hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in Syracuse since 1902.


Located at the southern end of Onondaga Lake in central Upstate New York, the city of Syracuse has a milder climate than the extremes found in the Empire State. I was born in New York State, and every year as I grew up my family would travel to Syracuse for the New York State Fair. That was always a lot of fun, and there are many other fun things to do in and around the Syracuse area. There are plenty of bars and restaurants located around Syracuse University, which was just named the top party school in America, and lots of recreational activities around Onondaga Lake.
In addition to boating and fishing activities on Onondaga Lake, Syracuse is located just to the northeast of the Finger Lakes region, which is a major tourist destination in New York State. There are many wineries, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and state parks that are very popular with tourists in the Finger Lakes area near Syracuse.
As a bit of weather trivia some might find hard to believe, the record hottest temperature in Syracuse of 102 degrees is two degrees hotter than the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in Miami, Florida. Syracuse is over 1,400 miles north of Miami.
  • Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded in New York State is 108 Degrees 
The all-time record hottest weather temperature ever recorded in the state of New York is 108 degrees, which occurred on July 22, 1926, in Troy, which is located about 150 miles east of Syracuse.


The difference between the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in Syracuse (102) and the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of New York (108) is six degrees. A decent sized statistical difference.
All-time Record Coldest Temperature Ever Recorded in Syracuse is -26 Degrees
The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in Syracuse is -26 degrees, which has occurred on three different dates. The first time it was a record -26 degrees in Syracuse was on December 20, 1942, the second time was on January 26, 1966, and the third time was on February 18, 1979.

The coldest weather temperature ever officially recorded in the state of New York is -52 degrees, which occurred on February 18, 1979, in Old Forge, which is located about 100 miles northeast of Syracuse.


The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Syracuse (-26) and the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of New York (-52) is 26 degrees. A huge statistical difference.
Overall, the city of Syracuse has a milder climate than the extremes in New York State.
