More Record Cold Temperature Records Have Been Set in USA Than Record Hot Over Last 50 Years

From 1966 to 2019, over twice as many states in the United States set their record coldest ever weather temperature records vs states that set their record hottest ever weather temperature records. That does not mean global warming is not occurring but how could more than twice as many states set record coldest weather temperature records than hottest if in fact the earth is getting warmer?

Logically, if the earth is warming than shouldn't the stats be the other way around and more record hottest weather temperatures would get broken over the last 50 years? Here's the data showing which states have set their record coldest weather temperatures vs states that have set their record hottest temperatures over the last 50 years.

More Record Cold Temperature Records Have Been Set in USA Than Record Hot Over Last 50 Years

  • 21 States That Have Set Coldest Weather Temperature Record Since 1966

1. Alabama (1966)

2. Alaska (1971)

3. Arizona (1971)

4. Colorado (1985)

5. Hawaii (1979) (New record likely set in 2019 awaiting verification)

6. Illinois (2019)

7. Indiana (1994)

8. Iowa (1996)

9. Kentucky (1994)

10. Maine (2009)

11. Massachusetts (1981)

12. Minnesota (1996)

13. Mississippi (1966)

14. New York (1979)

15. North Carolina (1985)

16. Oklahoma (2011)

17. South Carolina (1985)

18. Utah (1985)

19. Virginia (1985)

20. Washington (1968)

  • 10 States That Have Set Hottest Weather Temperature Record Since 1966

1. Arizona (1994)

2. Connecticut (1995)

3. Georgia (1983)

4. Massachusetts (1975)

5. Nevada (1994)

6. New Mexico (1994)

7. North Carolina (1983)

8. Oklahoma (1994)

9. Rhode Island (1975)

10. South Carolina (2012) Note: there is some doubt about this record that broke the previous record set in 1954.

What is interesting to note is that over the last 10 years three states, Maine in 2009, Oklahoma in 2011 and Illinois in 2019, have all set new record all-time lowest temperature readings. Only one state, South Carolina in 2012, has set its all-time highest temperature in the last 10 years.

Update: Hawaii almost certainly also set a new all-time coldest temperature record in February of 2019. Four locations recorded temperatures as much as three degrees lower than its old record of 12 degrees. Once verified that will be four states in the last ten years setting new record all-time lowest temperature readings vs just one state with a new all-time record high.
