New York City Snowstorm Weather Data Points to Dawn of Another Ice Age

Weather records have officially been kept in Central Park in New York City since 1869. That is 148 years of weather data. Over those 148 years New York City has seen nine blizzards that have dumped at least 19" of snow in Central Park.

Seven of those  nine snowstorms have occurred in the last 20 years, six have occurred in the last 14 years, four have occurred in the last six years and the largest blizzard on record occurred just over a year ago.

Based upon the weather data for snowstorms in NYC one can easily conclude we are at the dawn of a new ice age or at least a new mini ice age. Whether we are or not remains to be seen but the snowstorm data for NYC points far more to another ice age than it does to global warming.
10 Largest Snowstorms in New York City History
1) 27.5" on January 22-24, 2016

2) 26.9" on February 11-12, 2006
3) 26.4" on December 26-27-1947
4) 21.0" on March 12-14, 1888
5) 20.9" on February 25-26, 2010
6) 20.2" on January 7-8, 1996
7) 20.0" on December 26-27, 2010
8) 19.8" on February 16-17, 2003

9) 19" on January 26-27, 2011

Since 1869 there have been just 36 snowstorms that dumped a foot or more of snow in Central Park. If global warming was actually occurring one would think that most of the snowstorms would have occurred in the distant past. But the data shows just the opposite.

  • 67% of the largest snowstorms to ever hit New York City (6 out of 9)  have occurred in the last 15 years.

  • Ten of the 36 snowstorms that dumped at least one foot of snow in New York City have occurred since 2000.

  • Twenty-four or 2/3 of the snowstorms have occurred in the last 70 years. Only 1/3 of the snowstorms occurred prior to 1940.

  • Twenty-two percent (8 out of 36) of the snowstorms that dumped at least one foot of snow in Central Park have occurred in the last 12 years.

Proponents of global warming will tell you that global warming causes odd weather patterns. Odd to me means a freak snowstorm or two but not 67% of all the largest snowstorms to ever hit the city have occurred in the last 15 years and 22% of all snowstorms that have ever hit NYC in the last 12 years.
Data showing that 22% of all snowstorms that dumped at least one foot of snow in New York City occurred in the last 12 years and 2/3 of the largest snowstorms on record have all occurred in the last 15 years is far more indicative of another ice age than global warming.
Of course drawing conclusions from a decade's worth of weather data is foolhardy for all. Weather data can fluctuate considerably over short periods of time and the earth has been around for billions of years.
