Official weather records have been kept in Central Park in New York City since 1869. Astonishingly, those records reveal that 67% or two-thirds of all the largest blizzards to ever hit New York City have occurred over the last 15 years.
Since 1869, there have been nine blizzards in New York City that dumped at least 19" of snow in Central Park and six of those blizzards all occurred over the last 15 years. Another one of the blizzards occurred in 1996, so seven out of the nine largest blizzards to ever hit New York City all occurred over the last 20 years.
That means that 78% of all the largest blizzards to ever hit New York City have all occurred in the last 20 years or so. That is an amazing weather statistic that has to make anyone like this author who lives in the New York City area wonder what is going on?
Is there any significance to the fact that 67% of all the largest blizzards to ever hit New York City have all occurred over the last 15 years and 78% of the largest blizzards have all occurred over the last 20 years or so? Is that just a fluke? Is it global warming? Is it global cooling? Are we headed for another ice age?
