Austin is one of the most populated and most visited cities in the world.
For all the people living in the Austin area and all the tourists thinking of visiting the city, here is a list of the hottest temperature records for each month of the year.
The list can be very useful for tourists visiting Austin at any time of the year. Also listed for each month are great places to visit in Austin during that time of the year.
In addition to the record hottest temperature and places to visit for each month, I'm also listing the date and year in which the record occurred. If you are not familiar with Austin, you might be pretty surprised at some of the record hottest temperatures for each month.
The temperature records below date back to 1897. All the data is from the National Weather Service.
January – 90 degrees
The record high temperature for January in Austin is 90 degrees, which occurred on January 30, 1971.
A great place to visit in the city during the first month of the year is the 27-story 307 foot high University of Texas Tower, where you can get great views of the university and city of Austin.
February – 99 degrees
The record high temperature for February in Austin is 99 degrees, which occurred on February 21, 1996. Despite the record high near 100 degrees, it's only been 90 degrees in Austin a little more than a dozen times since 1897.
February is a great month to visit the Bullock Texas State History Museum located right in the heart of the city at 1800 North Congress Avenue in Austin.
March – 98 degrees
The record high temperature for March in Austin is 98 degrees, which occurred on March 28, 1971.
The best place to visit in the city in March is Covert Park at Mount Bonnell, where you can see fantastic sweeping views of Austin, the Colorado River, Lake Austin and the surrounding area.
April – 99 degrees
The record high temperature for April in Austin is 99 degrees, which occurred on April 2, 1939, and was matched on April 17, 2006.
April is a great month to head over to the Zilker Botanical Garden, located at 2220 Barton Springs Road, and watch Spring bloom in Austin.
May – 104 degrees
The record high temperature for May in Austin is 104 degrees, which occurred on May 24, 1925.
A fun place to visit in May in the Austin area is Lake Travis Zipline Adventures located at 14529 Pocahontas Trail in Volente.
June – 109 degrees
The record high temperature for June in Austin is 109 degrees, which occurred on June 26, 2012.
As the weather heats up in June, it's a great time to visit the Barton Springs Pool, which is a three-acre swimming pool filled with water from natural springs. Barton Springs Pool is located in Zilker Park in Austin.
July – 110 degrees
The record high temperature for July in Austin is 110 degrees, which occurred on July 23, 2018.
July is a fun time in Austin to visit McKinney Falls State Park where you can see the Upper and Lower McKinney Waterfalls along Onion Creek.
August – 112 degrees
The record high temperature for August in Austin is 112 degrees, which occurred on August 28, 2011. 112 degrees is the all-time record hottest temperature for Austin.
August is a great month to cool off by visiting the City of Austin run public Deep Eddy Pool located at 401 Deep Eddy Ave.
September – 112 degrees
The record high temperature for September in Austin is 112 degrees. That record high occurred on September 5, 2000. The 112 degrees is the all-time hottest record temperature in Austin.
The weather is still pretty hot in September and it's a great time to visit the Hamilton Pool Preserve located west of Austin at 24300 Hamilton Road in Dripping Springs.
October – 100 degrees
The record high temperature for October in Austin is 100 degrees, which occurred on October 2, 1938. The city of Austin has had 100 degree weather temperature days in six of the twelve months from May through October.
As the leaves change over and Halloween nears in the city, October is a great time to visit the House of Torment haunted house located at 2632 Ridgepoint Drive. Also don't miss the Austin City Limits Music Festival held annually over two consecutive weekends during the month of October in Zilker Park.
November – 91 degrees
The record high temperature for November in Austin is 91 degrees, which occurred on November 13, 1951, and was matched on November 10, 2006 and November 1, 2016. It's only been 90 degrees in November in Austin five times since 1897.
A great place to visit in November in Austin is the Texas State Capitol building and grounds. Tours are free of charge and are guided or self-guided. In October, you can also take a Rest in Peace Texas Capitol Halloween Tour.
December – 90 degrees
The record high temperature for December in Austin is 90 degrees, which occurred on December 25, 1955.
Celebrate Christmas and have fun in December by visiting the Austin Trail of Lights in Zilker Park, which includes the 155 foot high Zilker Christmas Tree.
