Below zero temperature days in Waco are extremely rare. In addition to the record -5 degree day in 1949, there have only been two other below freezing days in Waco history since 1901.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Texas is -23 degrees, which occurred on February 8, 1933, in Seminole. Located near the New Mexico border in west Texas, Seminole is some 350 miles northwest of Waco. 

The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Waco (-5) and the all-time coldest temperature in the state of Texas (-23) is 18 degrees. A big difference and a much larger difference than the hottest temperatures between the city and the state.

Overall, Waco is a city with very moderate weather temperatures and this warm weather city that is home to Baylor University and Waco Mammoth National Monument has a milder climate in temperature variations than the extremes found in the state of Texas and in almost all cities in the United States.
