What 3 Northern USA Cities Have Had 90 Degree Weather Temperature Days in March?

There are three northern cities in the United States with over 500,000 metro populations that have had 90 degree weather temperature days in the month of March. Can you name any one of the three cities?

All three cities are way north of the Mason-Dixon line and all three are large cities you will know. Two of the cities are actually the capital cities of their states which narrows down the choices considerably. For a hint, none of the three cities is located in a state that borders Canada but all three states are northern states for sure.

Here's one more hint. Boston is not one of the three cities. Boston is an excellent guess since it is the capital of Massachusetts and its record high temperature in March is 89 degrees but that's not 90 degrees.

In 1998, New England had a massive heat wave in March which saw places like Boston and Concord, New Hampshire hit 89 on the thermometer. That's a remarkable temperature for March since Concord only averages 11 days when the thermometer reaches 90 degrees or above annually. Boston itself only averages 12 days of 90 degree weather temperatures a year.

If you can guess any one of the three cities your are a weather genius. If you can guess all three you are a weather guru.

What 3 Northern USA Cities Have Had 90 Degree Weather Temperature Days in March?

Omaha, Nebraska has an average daily temperature of just 37.7 degrees in the month of March but the city has twice had 90 degree temperatures during the month. On March 25, 1907 and on March 31, 2012, the temperature soared to 91 degrees in Omaha, Nebraska.

Those are the only two 90 degree weather temperature days in March in Omaha's history. Omaha averages 24 days a year when the city reaches the 90 degree mark or above. Interestingly, Omaha is the non-capital city on this list but the capital of Nebraska is Lincoln and Lincoln has had five 90 degree weather temperature days in March. Lincoln is about 50 miles southwest of Omaha.

Providence is the capital city of Rhode Island and its average daily temperature in March is only 37.7 degrees but on March 29, 1945, the weather temperature soared to 90 degrees in the city. That is the only 90 degree weather temperature reading Providence has ever had in the month of March.

It's a pretty remarkable temperature for March since Providence only averages 10 days a year when the temperature reaches 90 degrees or above. In March of 1998 when the temperature soared to 89 degrees in places like Boston and Concord, New Hampshire, the hottest it ever got in Providence was 85 degrees.

Des Moines is the capital city of Iowa and its average daily temperature in March is only 37.3 degrees but on March 29, 1986, the weather temperature soared to 90 degrees in the city. That is the only 90 degree weather temperature reading Des Moines has ever had in the month of March.

The 90 degree weather temperature reading for March in Des Moines is pretty remarkable too but not as remarkable as Providence. Des Moines averages 22 days a year when the temperature soars to 90 degrees or above which is over twice as many days as Providence but two less days than Omaha averages.
