All-time Record Hottest and Coldest Temperatures Ever Recorded in Baltimore, Maryland

Weather temperatures have been officially kept in Baltimore, Maryland since 1872. These are the all-time record hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in Baltimore since 1872.

Baltimore, which is the largest city in Maryland, has a milder climate than the extremes that can be found in the state of Maryland. This is shown by the difference between the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in Baltimore, compared to the difference between the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in the state of Maryland.
The difference between the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in Baltimore is 114 degrees. The difference between the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in the state of Maryland is 149 degrees; a difference of 35 degrees.
Record Hottest and Coldest Temperatures Ever Recorded in Baltimore, Maryland
All-time Record Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded in Baltimore is 107 Degrees
The hottest temperature ever officially recorded in the city of Baltimore is 107 degrees, which occurred on July 10, 1936. My aunt lived near Baltimore for many years and I would visit her during many summers. Days when the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees in Baltimore are not common, but I would also not call them rare at all.
As a bit of weather trivia some might find hard to believe, the record hottest temperature in Baltimore of 107 degrees is exactly seven degrees hotter than the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in Miami, Florida. Baltimore is some 1,100 miles north of Miami.
  • Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded in Maryland is 109 Degrees
The all-time record hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Maryland is 109 degrees, which occurred on July 10, 1936, in both Cumberland and Frederick. Cumberland is some 120 miles northwest of Baltimore, while Frederick lies between the two cities, some 50 miles west of Baltimore.

The state of Maryland and the city of Baltimore both experienced their record hottest day on the same date in 1936. That is not surprising, as 15 different states experienced their all-time record hottest temperature during the summer of 1936.
The difference between the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in Baltimore (107) and the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Maryland (109) is just two degrees. Not much of a difference at all.
All-time Record Coldest Temperature Ever Recorded in Baltimore is -7 Degrees
The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the city of Baltimore is -7 degrees, which has occurred on five different dates. The first time it was -7 degrees in Baltimore was on February 10, 1899. The other four dates are February 9, 1934, January 29, 1963, January 17, 1982, and January 22, 1984.
Below zero temperature days are not common in the city of Baltimore. A real cold spell has to come into the area to get the temperature that low, and Baltimore has many winters when the temperature does not come close to getting below zero.
  • Coldest Temperature Ever Recorded in Maryland is -40 Degrees
The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Maryland is -40 degrees, which occurred on January 13, 1912, in Oakland. The city of Oakland is located in far western Maryland, near the West Virginia border, some 180 miles west of Baltimore.

The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Baltimore (-7) and the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Maryland (-40) is 33 degrees. A very large difference, and much larger than the differences between the hottest temperatures in Baltimore and the state of Maryland.
Overall, the city of Baltimore gets just about as hot as any other part of the state of Maryland does, but Baltimore stays warmer in the winter than the extremes than can be found in state.
