I've been to Bakersfield a couple of times and would unquestionably call it a hot weather city. The sun was always shining when I was in Bakersfield, but the city can get thick Tule Fog in the winter which can cause major accidents along the highways in California.

The coldest temperature ever officially recorded in the state of California is -45 degrees, which occurred on January 20, 1937, in Boca, a town that was located about 400 miles north of Bakersfield, but is now mostly submerged under the Boca Dam.
