I've been to Providence a number of times, and it is a really nice city to visit, filled with lots of old historic buildings. Providence also has a ton of great parks, which are perfect for daily runs and walks.
I went to college in Boston, and we would sometimes travel down to Providence for concerts and sporting events. The city itself is home to Brown, an Ivy League university, as well as Providence College, Johnson and Wales University, and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Overall, the city of Providence has a climate very similar to the extremes found in the state of Rhode Island. Providence actually holds the Rhode Island state record for the warmest temperature, and is only eight degrees off the the state record for the coldest temperature.
