The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of California is -45 degrees, which occurred on January 20, 1937, in Boca. The town of Boca is now mostly gone submerged under the Boca Dam which was built in 1939 and is located along Route 80 north of Lake Tahoe.

The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Barstow (7) and the all-time coldest temperature in the state of California (-45) is 52 degrees. A huge difference and a much larger a difference than the hottest temperatures between the city and state.

Overall, Barstow is a city with mostly moderate weather temperatures and this city that sits midway between LA and Las Vegas has a much milder climate in temperature variations than the extremes found in the state of California or in most cities in the United States.

  1. I lived in Barstow from 1954 till 1974, the hottest temp. Was 122 in August 1967. The military bases around Barstow had to move troops out of field to air condition housing, if temp was above 120 at 1:00pm for two Westerville were out of field by 1pm. Must be new math lol

  2. 118 is the official record. It could be 120 plus for thermometers on a military base but that would not count as official because a thermometer cannot be above asphalt or any other non-natural surface which could artificially raise the temperature. Many stadiums with artificial turf can have incredibly hot temperatures as the turf itself heats up and raises the temperature on the field but that is not natural heat. At official stations with thermometers over natural surfaces the record hottest temperature for Barstow is 118 degrees dating back to 1903.
