Below freezing temperature days are not overly common in Indio and only occur from November to March if they occur at all in any year. The earliest below freezing day in Indio occurred on October 30, 1971, and the latest below freezing day occurred on March 27, 1913.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of California is -45 degrees, which occurred on January 20, 1937, in Boca. The town of Boca is now mostly gone submerged under the Boca Dam which was built in 1939 and is located along Route 80 north of Lake Tahoe.

The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Indio (13) and the all-time coldest temperature in the state of California (-45) is 58 degrees. A huge difference and a much larger a difference than the hottest temperatures between the city and state.

Overall, Indio is a city with very moderate weather temperatures and this City of Festivals in Southern California located 130 miles east of Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley has a much milder climate in temperature variations than the extremes found in the state of California and in most cities and places in the United States.
