The hottest place on Earth is located in California in Death Valley where a world record temperature of 134 degrees was recorded in 1913. Here are the 10 hottest places located in California.



The 10 hottest places in California are listed by the highest temperatures ever recorded in each place. So these are the 10 places in California that have had the hottest weather temperatures recorded there. 

These are not the 10 hottest temperatures ever recorded in California. All 10 of the hottest temperatures ever recorded in California would only be in the first two places on the list below. 

In addition to the hottest weather temperature for each site also listed are the annual daily average temperatures for each place. Also known as the annual mean temperature. 

Each place in California on this list has reached at least 124 degrees. These are many of the hottest places located not only in California but in the United States and the world.

1. Death Valley - 134 degrees



At the Greenland Ranch in Death Valley a world record hottest temperature of 134 degrees was recorded on July 10, 1913. The Greenland Ranch is now called the Furnace Creek Ranch. The average daily temperature for Greenland Ranch for the entire year is 76.3 degrees. Not the hottest mean temperature on this list.


2. Niland, California - 129 degrees

Located 2 miles southeast of the Salton Sea in southeastern Southern California, the town of Niland had a weather temperature temperature reading of 129 degrees on August 23, 1915. The 2nd hottest temperature ever recorded in California outside of Death Valley. The annual daily temperature in Niland is 79.2 degrees the hottest mean temperature on this list.


3. Gold Rock Ranch - 127 degrees

Located in extreme southeastern Southern California about 15 miles northwest of Yuma, Arizona and 15 miles north of the Mexican border, the Gold Rock Ranch had a weather temperature reading of 127 degrees on July 28, 1995. That's good for 3rd place on this list of hottest places in California. The annual daily temperature for the Gold Rock Ranch is  74.1 degrees.


T-4. Thermal, California - 126 degrees

Located in the Coachella Valley just south of Indio and 10 miles north of the Salton Sea, the city of Thermal had a weather temperature reading of 126 degrees on July 28, 1995. Technically, the reading was at the Desert Resorts Regional Airport in Thermal. The average annual daily temperature in  Thermal is 72.4 degrees.


T-4. Mecca, California - 126 degrees

At temperature reading of 126 degrees was recorded at the Mecca Fire Station on both September 2, 1950 and June 26, 1990. The Mecca Fire Station is located in Mecca, California about two miles north of the Salton Sea. The annual average daily temperature for Mecca is 72.3 degrees.


T-4. Cow Creek - 126 degrees

At the Cow Creek weather station located a bit north of the Greenland Ranch site in Death Valley, a weather temperature reading of 126 degrees was recorded on July 24, 1942. The average daily temperature at Cow Creek is 77.2 degrees, the 2nd hottest on this list.


T-7. Indio, California - 125 degrees

A weather temperature reading of 125 degrees was recorded in Indio, California on July 6, 1905. Indio is located in the Coachella Valley right above Thermal. The annual average daily temperature in Indio is 73.5 degrees.


T-7. Needles, California - 125 degrees

Needles is located along the Colorado River just two miles south of where California, Nevada and Arizona all meet just south of Laughlin, Nevada. On both June 20, 2017 and July 17, 2005, the weather temperature was 125 degrees in Needles. The annual average daily temperature in Needles is 73.6 degrees.


T-9. Baker, California - 124 degrees

On both July 31 and August 2 in 1980 the weather temperature was 124 degrees in Baker, California. Baker is located along Interstate 15 in Southern California northeast of Barstow and southwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. The annual average daily temperature in Baker is 70.3 degrees.


T-9. Parker Reservoir - 124 degrees



A weather temperature of 124 degrees was also recorded at the Parker Reservoir or Parker Dam station on July 1, 1950. The Parker Dam is located along the Colorado River on the California side just south of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The annual average daily temperature at the reservoir is 71.6 degrees.


T-9. Ocotillo Wells - 124 degrees

Rounding out the list of hottest places in California is Ocotillo Wells where it was 124 degrees on July 11, 1934. Ocotilla Wells is located along State Route 78 about 10 miles west of the Salton Sea. The annual average daily temperature in Ocotillo Wells is 76.2 degrees.

T-9. Westhaven, California - 124 degrees

On July 27, 1931, it was 124 degrees in Westhaven, California, which is located about 35 miles west of Visalia in the San Joaquin Valley. The annual average daily temperature in Westhaven is 63.2 degrees easily the coldest on this list of hottest places in California.
