Atlanta is one of the most historic, populated and most visited cities in the United States.
For all the people living in the Atlanta area and all the tourists thinking of visiting the city, here is a list of the hottest temperature records for each month of the year.
The list can be very useful for tourists visiting Atlanta at any time of the year. Also listed for each month are great places to visit in Atlanta during that time of the year.
In addition to the record hottest temperature and places to visit for each month, I'm also listing the date and year in which the record occurred. If you are not familiar with Atlanta you might be pretty surprised at some of the record hottest temperatures for each month.
The temperature records below date back to 1878. All the data is from the National Weather Service.
January—79 degrees
The record high temperature for January in Atlanta is 79 degrees which occurred on January 11, 1949. It's been 70 degrees or warmer in Atlanta in January many dozens of times since 1878.
Since the weather can be cold and unpredictable in January, a great place to visit in Atlanta during the first month of the year is the World of Coca-Cola museum located at 121 Baker Street NW.
February—80 degrees
The record high temperature for February in Atlanta is 80 degrees which occurred on February 15, 1989, February 26, 1996 and February 7, 2019.
February is another month with unpredictable weather in the city. Another great indoor place to visit is the Atlanta History Center located at 130 West Paces Ferry Road. Do not miss the nearby historic Swan House.
March—89 degrees
The record high temperature for March in Atlanta is 89 degrees which occurred on March 23, 1995. Hard to believe it's not been 90 degrees in Atlanta in March.
The best place to visit in Atlanta in March is the High Museum of Art located at 1290 Peachtree Street NE.
April—93 degrees
The record high temperature for April in Atlanta is 93 degrees which occurred on April 24, 1925 and was matched on April 27, 1986.
April is a great month to head over to the Atlanta Botanical Garden located at 1345 Piedmont Ave NE and watch Spring bloom in the city.
May—97 degrees
The record high temperature for May in Atlanta is 97 degrees which occurred on May 29, 1941.
A great place to visit in May in the city as the weather turns nice is Piedmont Park in the heart of Atlanta where many festivals are held annually.
June—106 degrees
The record high temperature for June in Atlanta is 106 degrees which occurred on June 30, 2012. The 106 degree temperature is the record high for Atlanta for the whole year.
As the weather stays nice in June it's a great time to visit Centennial Olympic Park where the 1996 Summer Olympics where held in Atlanta. Be sure to take a ride on the 20 story high SkyView Atlanta Ferris wheel.
July—105 degrees
The record high temperature for July in Atlanta is 105 degrees which occurred on both July 13 and 17, 1980, and also on July 1, 2012.
July is a fun time in Atlanta to visit the Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park which also includes the Hurricane Harbor water park to cool down in summer.
August—104 degrees
The record high temperature for August in Atlanta is 104 degrees which occurred on August 22, 2007.
August is a great month in Atlanta to visit Six Flags White Water located at 250 Cobb Pkwy N #100 in Marietta.
September—102 degrees
The record high temperature for September in Atlanta is 102 degrees. That record high occurred on September 5, September 7 and September 8, 1925. Only June, July, August and September have hit 100 degrees in the city.
The weather is still pretty good in September and it's a great time to visit Zoo Atlanta located at 800 Cherokee Ave SE.
October—95 degrees
The record high temperature for October in Atlanta is 95 degrees which occurred on both October 5 and 6, 1954.
As the leaves change over and Halloween nears, October is a great time to visit the historic stone castle like Romanesque Revival style Rhodes Hall house located at 1516 Peachtree Street NW.
November—84 degrees
The record high temperature for November in Atlanta is 84 degrees which occurred on November 2, 1961, and was matched on November 3, 2016.
A great place to visit in November is the world renowned Georgia Aquarium located at 225 Baker Street NW.
December—79 degrees
The record high temperature for December in Atlanta is 79 degrees which occurred on December 1, 1991.
Have fun in December in Atlanta by visiting the Georgia State Capitol building which is beautifully decorated annually with a big Christmas Tree in the rotunda.
