Boston is one of the most populated and most visited cities in the world.
For all the people living in the Boston area and all the tourists thinking of visiting the city, here is a list of the hottest temperature records for each month of the year.
The list can be very useful for tourists visiting Boston at any time of the year. Also listed for each month are great places to visit in Boston during that time of the year.
In addition to the record hottest temperature and places to visit for each month, I'm also listing the date and year in which the record occurred. If you are not familiar with Boston you might be pretty surprised at some of the record hottest temperatures for each month.
The temperature records below date back to 1872. All the data is from the National Weather Service.
January—72 degrees
The record high temperature for January in Boston is 72 degrees and it was recorded on January 26, 1950. Many people might be pretty surprised that Boston has had a 70 degree day in January. It's only been 70 degrees in January one other time and that occurred on January 1, 1876, when it was 70 degrees exactly.
Since the weather can be cold and unpredictable in January, a great place to visit in Boston during the first month of the year is the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
February—73 degrees
The record high temperature for February in Boston is 73 degrees which occurred on February 24, 2017. It was also 72 degrees on February 21 and 70 degrees on February 20 in 2018.
February is another month with unpredictable weather in the city. Another great indoor place to visit is the Museum of Science, Boston.
March—89 degrees
The record high temperature for March is 89 degrees, which occurred on March 31, 1998. How many people would have guessed it's almost been 90 degrees in Boston in March?
The best place to visit in Boston in March is the Cheers Bar, where the outside of the iconic TV show of the same name was shown. The original Cheers Bar is located at 84 Beacon Street in the Beacon Hill neighborhood in Boston.
April—94 degrees
The record high temperature for April in Boston is 94 degrees which occurred on April 18, 1976. To date, it's been 90 degrees or hotter five times in Boston in April.
April is a great month to head over to the Prudential Center building and go to the Skywalk Observatory where you can get fantastic 360 degree views of Boston and the surrounding area.
May—97 degrees
The record high temperature for May in Boston is 97 degrees. That record high was set on May 26, 1880.
A great places to visit in May in Boston is legendary Fenway Park where the Boston Red Sox play. Seeing the Green Monster in person is a must for true baseball fans, and you can even sit above it if you want.
June—100 degrees
The record high temperature for June in Boston is 100 degrees, which has occurred twice. The first time was on June 6, 1925, and the second time was on June 26, 1952.
As the weather gets nice in Boston in June it's a great time to walk the Freedom Trail. Marked by red lines and or bricks, the Freedom Trail winds though old Boston, past historical sights like the Old North Church and the Paul Revere House.
July—104 degrees
The record high temperature for July in Boston is 104 degrees, which occurred on July 4, 1911. The 104 degrees is also the all-time record high temperature for Boston.
July is a fun time in Boston as the nation celebrates July 4th. Check out the annual July 4th Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular which takes place annually at the Hatch Memorial Shell along the Charles River.
August—102 degrees
The record high temperature for August in Boston is 102 degrees. That record high occurred on August 2, 1975.
August is a great month in Boston to take a walk along the Charles River and even take a sightseeing cruise along the river through Boston.
September—102 degrees
The record high temperature for September in Boston is 102 degrees. That record high occurred on September 7, 1881. Only the months of June, July, August and September have reached 100 degrees in Boston.
The weather is still pretty good in September and it's a great time to visit the famed Boston Common and connected Public Garden.
October—90 degrees
The record high temperature for October in Boston is 90 degrees which has been reached three times. The first time was on October 1, 1881, the second time on October 12, 1954 and the third time on October 7, 1963.
As the leaves change over, October is a great time to visit the 221 foot high Bunker Hill Monument obelisk located at monument square in Charlestown, just across the river from Boston.
November—83 degrees
The record high temperature for November in Boston is 83 degrees which occurred on November 2, 1950.
A great historical site in Boston to visit in November is the USS Constitution. The ship is located in the Boston National Historical Park in the Charlestown Navy Yard in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Tours of the ship are free.
December—76 degrees
The record high temperature for December in Boston is 76 degrees which occurred on December 7, 1998.
Have fun in December in Boston by taking the BYOB Holiday Lights Trolley ride through the city past all the holiday decorations. Tours start at 867-911 Boylston Street in the Back Bay section of Boston.
