The 2017 Northern Trust golf tournament on the PGA Tour is taking place this week from August 24-27, 2017, at the Glen Oaks Club located in Old Westbury, New York. Here is a list of the playing field of top PGA golfers for the 2017 Northern Trust.
The 2017 Northern Trust is the first of the four FedEx Cup Playoff tournaments. The tournament dates back to 1967, and it has been part of the FedEx Cup Playoffs since the playoffs started in 2007. Overall, Vijay Singh holds the record for most wins with four, followed by Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros, Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia with two wins each.
No player has won this event more than once since it has become part of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Tiger Woods has won the FedEx Cup twice but he never won this event. In fact, no player who has won this first FedEx Cup Playoff has gone on to win the FedEx Cup.
As noted below, 10 of the top 50 ranked golfers in the world are not playing this week. That's surprising given that $35 million is up for grabs in bonus money alone in the 2017 FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Other top ranked players skipping the Northern Trust are Alex Noren, Tommy Fleetwood, Adam Scott, Thomas Pieters, Tyrrell Hatton, Bern Wiesberger, Brandt Snedeker, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Ross Fisher and Danny Willett. All those players are ranked in the top 50 in the world.
Players who have won the Northern Trust who are in the playing field and not included above are Patrick Reed (2016) and Matt Kuchar (2010).
