10 Southern Cities That Have Never Been as Hot as New York City

Did you know that there are dozens of cities in the south that have never had a weather temperature reading as hot as the record is for New York City? It's true and here is a list of 10 major cities in the south that have never been as a hot as New York City.



First, the record hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Central Park in Manhattan in New York City dating back to 1869 is 106 degrees. Technically, it's also been 107 degrees once each in The Bronx and in Queens but most people consider Manhattan to be New York City.

If we did use the 107 degree mark than Atlanta could be included on this list of southern cities that have never been as a hot as New York City. The hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Atlanta is 106 degrees but we are using 106 degrees as the hottest weather temperature for New York here.

The hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Miami is just 100 degrees which occurred on July 21, 1942. Miami is located some 1,300 miles south of New York City.

2. New Orleans - 104 degrees

The hottest weather temperature ever recorded in New Orleans is 104 degrees which occurred on June 24, 2009. The Big Easy is also about 1,300 miles south of New York.

3. Mobile - 105 degrees

The hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Mobile, Alabama is 105 degrees which occurred on August 29, 2000. Mobile is about 1,200 miles south of New York City.

4. Key West - 97 degrees

The hottest temperature ever recorded in Key West, the furthest southern city in the Continental United States is 97 degrees which occurred on July 19, 1800 and on August 26, 1956. Key West is about 1,500 miles south of New York.

5. Raleigh - 105 degrees

The hottest temperature ever recorded in Raleigh, North Carolina is 105 degrees which occurred on six different dates ranging from 1952 to 2012. Raleigh is located about 500 miles south of Manhattan.

6. Virginia Beach - 105 degrees

The record hottest weather temperature ever recorded in Virginia Beach is 105 degrees which occurred on August 7, 1918 and also on July 24 and 25, 2010. Virginia Beach is about 360 miloes south of New York City.

7. Savannah - 105 degrees

The record hottest temperature ever recorded in Savannah, Georgia is 105 degrees which occurred on July 12, 1879 and on July 20, 1986. Savannah is about 800 miles south of New York.

8. Charleston - 105 degrees

The record hottest temperature ever recorded in Charleston, South Carolina is 105 degrees which occurred on August 1, 1999. Charleston is some 750 miles south of Manhattan.

9. Tampa - 99 degrees

The record hottest temperature ever recorded in Tampa is 99 degrees which occurred on June 5, 1985. Tampa is about 1,100 miles south of New York City.

10. Honolulu - 95 degrees

The record hottest temperature ever recorded in Honolulu, Hawaii is 95 degrees which occurred on September 19, 1994. Honolulu, Hawaii is located some 5,000 miles south and west of New York in the South Pacific Ocean.
