Weather temperatures have been officially kept in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area of Virginia since1874. These are the all-time record hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in Norfolk-Virginia Beach since 1874.

Located along the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area has a much milder climate than the extremes found in the state of Virginia. This is born out by the differences between the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in Norfolk-Virginia Beach, compared to the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures recorded in Virginia.
The difference between the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area is 108 degrees. The difference between the all-time hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in the state of Virginia is 140 degrees; a big difference of 32 degrees.

Days when the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees are not particularly common in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area. In many summers, there are no 100 degree days recorded in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area.
I've vacationed a few times in the Virginia Beach area, and it's a great place to visit. The beach is really long and it's lined with countless hotels, motels, restaurants and tourist attractions for summer fun for singles or families. The weather is usually pretty good in Virginia Beach in the summer.
As a bit of weather trivia some might find hard to believe, the record hottest temperature in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area of 105 degrees is exactly five degrees hotter than the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in Miami, Florida. The Norfolk-Virginia Beach area is some 1,000 miles north of Miami.

Located about 220 miles northwest of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Balcony Falls is right about where the James and Maury River merge, near the town of Glasgow. The Balcony Falls Dam used to be located there, but it was removed in 1973.
The Natural Bridge in Virginia, a great natural wonder to see, is located only a few miles from Glasgow. Thomas Jefferson once owned the Natural Bridge, and it's believed George Washington surveyed the bridge in his younger days. Today, it's a big tourist attraction.
The difference between the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in Norfolk-Virginia Beach (105) and the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Virginia (110) is five degrees. Not a big statistical difference.

The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Norfolk-Virginia Beach (-3) and the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Virginia (-30) is 27 degrees. A big statistical difference.
