Cities in All 50 States Set All-Time Coldest Temperature Records in 2020

Before the news media tries to tell you that 2020 was the hottest year on record, here is a list of cities in all 50 states in the United States that set all-time coldest temperature records in 2020.

Just to make things clear, all the cities on the list set all-time daily coldest ever temperature records in 2020 (or 2019, but at least one city from each state in 2020). What does that mean? There are 365 days in the year. Each city has a coldest daily temperature record for each of the 365 days in the year.

Cities listed below from all 50 states each set at least one new coldest ever temperature record for one of the 365 days in the year in 2020 (or 2019 or both). That is pretty impressive considering that almost all of the cities below have temperature records dating back at least 100 years and in many cases close to 150 years.

Is it unusual for cities in all 50 states to set coldest ever temperature records in one year? Yes, it is unusual, however, as you can see below many of the cities also set daily coldest ever temperature records in 2019.

So we have a very high number of all-time coldest ever daily temperature records that have been broken all over the United States over the last two years. Is that an alarming trend? Yes, if it continues.

A couple of notes before we get to the list. This list was not cherry picked. For most states the list contains the largest city or cities in the state.

Countless other cities and weather station locations throughout the United States could have been included on the list but in almost all cases the author never had to look beyond the largest cities in each state to find coldest ever daily record temperatures set in 2020 (and 2019).

The list is only for daily record coldest temperatures and not record hottest. If the media kept trying to say that 2020 is the coldest year in recorded history the author would have looked for daily record hottest temperatures.

There are dinosaur fossils in the Arctic and many beech tree fossils in Antarctica. It had to have been quite a bit hotter all over the world for dinosaurs to be in the Arctic and groves of beech trees in Antarctica than it has ever been in modern times.

All data is from the National Weather Service. States and cities in those states are listed by alphabetical order.
