Lakeland, which is named for all the lakes in the area, is certainly a warm weather city. Days when the temperature reaches 90 degrees or more have occurred in Lakeland in every month of the year except for January. The earliest 90 degree weather temperature date in Lakeland was on February 25, 1962, and the latest 90 degree day was on December 8, 1908.

All-Time Record Coldest Weather Temperature Ever Recorded in Lakeland is 15 Degrees

The coldest weather temperature ever officially recorded in Lakeland, Florida is 15 degrees which occurred on January 27, 1905. Below freezing weather temperature days are not common in Lakeland and they only occur from mid-November to mid-March in any given year if they occur at all. The earliest below freezing date in Lakeland was on November 14, 1932 and the latest was on March 17, 1916.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Florida is -2 degrees, which occurred on February 13, 1899, in Tallahassee which is located about 240 miles northwest of Lakeland. On February 13, 1899, the Great Blizzard of 1899 struck the northeastern part of North America spreading record temperatures all the way down to Cuba and bringing the only below zero temperature reading ever recorded in Florida. 

The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Lakeland (15) and the all-time coldest temperature in the state of Florida (-2) is 17 degrees. A big difference and a much larger difference than the hottest temperatures between the city and the state.

Overall, Lakeland is a city with very moderate weather temperatures and this lake dominated area has a milder climate in temperature variations than the extremes found in the state of Florida and in almost all cities in the United States.
