Record Hottest and Coldest Weather Temperatures Ever Recorded in St. Petersburg, Florida

Official weather records have been kept in the city of St. Petersburg, Florida since 1892. Here are the record hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in St. Petersburg, Florida since 1892.

Located on a peninsula between Tampa and the Gulf of Mexico along Florida's west coast, the city of St. Petersburg has very mild weather variations in temperatures and much milder temperature variations than the extremes found in the state of Florida or in almost all cities in the United States.

 

The difference between the hottest and coldest temperatures ever recorded in St. Petersburg is 78 degrees. The difference between the hottest and coldest temperature records for the state of Florida is 111 degrees for a difference of 33 total degrees.

All-Time Record Hottest Weather Temperature Ever Recorded in St. Petersburg is 100 Degrees

The hottest weather temperature ever officially recorded in St. Petersburg, Florida is 100 degrees which occurred on July 5, 1995.

St. Petersburg, which holds the world record for most consecutive sunny days at 768, is certainly a warm weather city. Days when the temperature reaches 90 degrees or more have occurred in St. Petersburg in every month of the year except for January. The earliest 90 degree weather temperature date in St. Petersburg was on February 22, 1975, and the latest 90 degree day was on December 5, 1942.

The only time St. Petersburg has ever had a 100 degree temperature day, though, is the record date listed above.

  • Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded in Florida is 109 Degrees

The hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Florida is 109 degrees which occurred on June 29, 1931, in Monticello which is located about 350 miles northwest of St. Petersburg.

The difference between the all-time hottest temperature in St. Petersburg (100) and the all-time hottest temperature in Florida (109) is 9 degrees. A decent sized difference statistically. 

All-Time Record Coldest Weather Temperature Ever Recorded in St. Petersburg is 22 Degrees

The coldest weather temperature ever officially recorded in St. Petersburg, Florida is 22 degrees which occurred on December 13, 1962. 

Below freezing weather temperature days are not common in St. Petersburg and they only occur from mid-December to early February in any given year if they occur at all. The earliest below freezing date in St. Petersburg was on December 12, 1957 and the latest was on March 4, 1943 (a fluke since that's the only below freezing date beyond February 5th).

  • Coldest Temperature Ever Recorded in Florida is -2 Degrees

The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Florida is -2 degrees, which occurred on February 13, 1899, in Tallahassee which is located about 250 miles northwest of St. Petersburg. On February 13, 1899, the Great Blizzard of 1899 struck the northeastern part of North America spreading record temperatures all the way down to Cuba and bringing the only below zero temperature reading ever recorded in Florida. 

The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in St. Petersburg (22) and the all-time coldest temperature in the state of Florida (-2) is 24 degrees. A big difference and a much larger difference than the hottest temperatures between the city and the state.

Overall, St. Petersburg is a city with very moderate weather temperatures and this world record holder city for most sunny days in a row has a much milder climate in temperature variations than the extremes found in the state of Florida and in almost all cities in the United States.
