Boston Not Chicago is the Windiest Weather City in the United States

Chicago is known as the Windy City but it is far from the windiest weather city in the United States. The title of windiest weather city in the United States among cities with over 500,000 people belongs to Boston, Massachusetts.

On average the wind blows at 12.3 mph in Boston compared to just 10.3 mph in Chicago. That is a 20% difference so Chicago is not even really close to being as windy as Boston is.
In fact, there are 11 major cities in the United States that have average annual wind speeds that are higher than Chicago.
1. Boston - 12.3 mph
2. Oklahoma City - 12.2 mph
3. Buffalo - 11.8 mph
4. Milwaukee - 11.5 mph
5. Dallas - 10.7 mph
6. Kansas City - 10.6 mph
6. San Francisco - 10.6 mph
8. Cleveland - 10.5 mph
8. Minneapolis - 10.5 mph
8. Virginia Beach - 10.5 mph
11. Providence - 10.4 mph
12. Chicago - 10.3 mph

This author went to college in Boston and can certainly attest to the fact that the wind blows pretty hard and pretty often in Beantown. You can see a list of the windiest weather cities in the United States regardless of population size here.
