Melbourne is certainly a warm weather city. Days when the temperature reaches 90 degrees or more have occurred in Melbourne in every month of the year except for January. The earliest 90 degree weather temperature date in Melbourne was on February 11, 1939, and the latest 90 degree day was on December 6, 1942.

Below freezing weather temperature days are not common in Melbourne and they only occur from mid-November to early March in any given year if they occur at all. The earliest below freezing date in Melbourne was on November 16, 1942 and the latest was on March 2, 1968.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Florida is -2 degrees, which occurred on February 13, 1899, in Tallahassee which is located about 300 miles northwest of Melbourne. On February 13, 1899, the Great Blizzard of 1899 struck the northeastern part of North America spreading record temperatures all the way down to Cuba and bringing the only below zero temperature reading ever recorded in Florida. 

The difference between the all-time coldest temperature ever recorded in Melbourne (17) and the all-time coldest temperature in the state of Florida (-2) is 19 degrees. A big difference and a much larger difference than the hottest temperatures between the city and the state.

Overall, Melbourne is a city with very moderate weather temperatures and this popular tourist area along the central eastern coast of the Sunshine State has a much milder climate in temperature variations than the extremes found in the state of Florida and in almost all cities in the United States.
